Opening Jars with a Churchkey
A commercial steamer’s wand is light and easy to manipulate, as the heavy tank is on the floor.
How to Drugstore-wrap a package:
It used to be the way drugstores and drygood places securely wrapped packages. I remember our butcher wrapping meat with heavy white wax-coated paper (not waxed paper), each bit secured with gummed paper tape.
With foil, you don’t need tape.
- Use foil several inches bigger in all dimensions than what you’re wrapping
- Bring the edges of the foil together over the long dimension
- Fold down several times over itself, so that the final one is snug
- Fold and tighten up an end, then wrap it over itself as you did the top
- Repeat with the other side
Result: a secure, waterproof package.
Opening Jars with a Churchkey:
Take a bottle opener, slide the pointy part under the rim (heh) of the jar lid, and gently pry it away from the jar. It will release the vacuum seal and you can open it easily. Works on 98% of jars.
